A great time was had by all at our annual charity golf day at Hillside on Friday 15th June - none moreso than our worthy mens winners, the Happy Gilmore Foursomes!
What a fantastic day – we had the weather, all our old friends from our past charity golf days as well as new friends joining us for the first time! I think the course made a few people hot under the collar – it was the rough! Thankfully, Dave Burgess, slight of hand magician, spellbound them all when they came in with his hilarious tricks.
Everybody was extremely generous and took part in the various fundraising competitions during the day as well as getting involved in the auction in the evening. We were all entertained by the hilarious Jed Stone after eating a delicious 2 course meal cooked by the talented catering team at Hillside. Everybody seemed to relax, have a few drinks and enjoy themselves – a few more than others! I think there may have been a few sore heads the next morning!
The Happy Gilmore Foursomes were our mens winners, and I think they were quite happy with that! I think Lee Fletcher mentioned that he’d never won anything before! They were worthy winners as they happened to be the first team to arrive on the day – at 8am – and they were the last team to leave – at midnight! Great guys – see you next year! Congratulations to our winning ladies team – The Eaton Belles. They brought a touch of glamour to the evening that’s for sure.
A huge thank you to Paul Hughes and Shaun McGrail from i-paye and spi accountancy, our main sponsors for the second year running. We really do appreciate the support we get from your guys. Also, a huge thank you to Kelly and Gemma who work at i-paye and spi accountancy for all their hard work on the day – we couldn’t have done it without you!
Thank you to Illingworth Seddon for sponsoring the putting green – we really appreciate all your support.
We couldn’t hold a charity golf day without having our glamorous registration ladies – Veronica and Trish. They do a fantastic job of registering everybody and then totting up the scorecards after.
Our aim for the proceeds of this year’s event was to put them towards purchasing our own Echocardiogram machine so we can deliver midweek screenings, as well as Saturdays. This will allow us to screen double the amount of young people aged 16 to 35 that we screen now.
The grant total raised, together with Gift Aid, will come in at around £10,000! What a phenomenal sum! This will set us well on our way to being able to achieve our goal and buy this important piece of equipment.
Here’s to next year’s charity golf day!
