Lynn Hedgecoe – a National Superstar!

Lynn's 2.6 challenge of walking 26 laps of a local field in 26 different costumes has been a much bigger success than she could ever have hoped for!

As many of you may have seen already, our very own trustee, Lynn Hedgecoe, took part in the national 2.6 challenge on Sunday 26th April, on what would have been the day of the London Marathon.  She completed 26 laps of the 6 acre field opposite her house wearing 26 different outfits in an amazing 12 hours!  All of this after only coming up with the idea the day before!  So far she has raised over £3850!  Her target initially was to hopefully raise £1000!

The challenge took her 12 hours, finishing at 9.30pm, and she completed it in a staggering total of 31,928 steps.  Lynn, who was diagnosed 13 years ago with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and told that her heart would only be able to function at 19% of its capacity, never thought she would still be here let alone taking on the national 2.6 challenge.  What makes it even more of an achievement is the fact that she was meant to be having a pacemaker operation only a couple of weeks ago but it was postponed due to Covid 19.  A great feat for a lady who couldn’t make it up a flight of stairs due to her own heart condition!

All money raised is going to our charity which will allow us to continue delivering lifesaving free heart screenings, BP and cholesterol testing to young people aged 16 to 35 to prevent death by sudden cardiac arrest.

Lynn’s daughter, Sophie, was a huge support to her and we as a charity can’t thank her enough for all she has done to assist her mum in not only completing the challenge but absolutely smashing it!  Sophie is a very proud Ambassador of the VSF and we are incredibly grateful to her for all the support in raising awareness of our great little charity.  Sophie stated, “It was a crazy whirlwind of a day with so, so much support across all social media platforms and subsequently in national press!! She’s featured as the cover picture for Sky news, been printed in the Telegraph and in well over 100 online news articles from what I can see this morning! I’m sure there will be more to come as well. This is all down to the huge help from one of my closest friends and PR pro Hilary Davies who jumped on this as soon as she heard the idea (Saturday morning) and spent her whole weekend trying to promote Mum’s story. We can’t thank her enough ❤️”

Lynn has spent the last couple of days with her feet up, very well deserved indeed, and has been busy reading through all the many wonderful messages of support she has received.   She is totally overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and support of VSF’s life saving work!

If anyone hasn’t yet donated and could spare something towards her challenge we would be so grateful, let’s see if we can help Lynn to get past the £4000 mark!!
