The VSF would like to welcome Andrew McGarry as a new Patron.
Thirteen years ago Andy McGarry from Maghull was a successful junior tennis player, former Centre of Excellence footballer and a tennis coach who was competing in qualifiers for a tennis tournament.
Despite appearing to be the picture of health he suffered from an undiagnosed heart problem which took him to the edge of death when he suffered an attack out of the blue. Ten days later he woke up with a new heart.
The 36-year-old still plays sport and, while he can not quite reach the same levels he attained before his operation, he has competed at several British and World Transplant Games since his illness, clinching an impressive haul of medals.
Andy is delighted to be a Patron of the VSF and would urge all young, fit and healthy people aged 15-35 to be screened for any undiagnosed heart conditions.
Andy will be promoting the VSF at future World and British Transplant Games and will continue to spread the great work we deliver.
